6th Annual Street Stock Championship

Atwood, TN: Night two of the three night event is in the books. Four heat races have been run and the line-up for the 50 Lap feature is coming together with 12 cars locked into the main event on Sat. Night. After transferring the top 3 in each heat race, the main event looks to be a great show with some strong competition throughout the first 6 rows.

After setting fast time on Thursday night and starting on the pole in heat race #1, Jared Wagster #9W looked to be untouchable as the 20 lap heat race got underway. After a mid-race caution for a flat tire on the second place car of Johnny Houart #34, Wagster would find the #18 of Matt Cooper right on his bumper for the re-start. Matt Cooper had a good car, but was not able to get around Wagster for that top spot. Wagster would go onto victory, with Cooper in second, and Gary Mann #I-40 in third capturing that final feature transfer spot.

As 20 lap heat race #2 got underway, it looked to be just the same as heat #1 with Claudie Cook #54 starting out on the pole and never looking back. Cook would lead flag to flag with Bart Richardson #65 coming in second, but the real story was for third spot. Harold Sullivan #43 from the 8th starting spot worked his way through the traffic to grab that 3rd and final transfer spot into the feature event.

Just as in heat 1 & 2, the pole man was unbeatable. T.J. Herndon would jump from the pole position and never look back leaving the rest to fight it out for the other two transfer spots. After a lap 1 scuffle between Richie Berryhill #25 & Bobby Hobbs #72, Berryhill’s night was over with damage to the front suspension. The restart would place Bobby Hobbs in the 2nd spot with Ronnie Cooper #10 in third. As the laps wound down Herndon was out front with Kevin Salter passing both Cooper and Hobbs grabbing that 2nd spot with only a few laps left, leaving Bobby Hobbs with the final transfer position.

Heat race #4 seen Rex Berry #C21 starting on the pole and walking away with the victory, leaving all the action behind him. Jerry Buck #81 from the outside row 2 starting spot would slide past Steven Cunningham #96 for the second place position leaving him to defend his third place transfer spot. Mid-race, Cunningham would pull into the infield with an overheating problem canceling his chances of watching the B-mains from the grandstands. After Cunningham’s problems, Mike Ainley #4 & Garrett Mann #29 would find themselves fighting it out for third, but from out of nowhere, Brandon Smith #2 would jump in there and take Ainley’s chance of the transfer spot and at the same time setting himself up for a photo finish with Mann edging Smith out by about one foot at the line leaving Smith to try again in the B-main #2 event on Sat. night.

On Sat. Night, the drivers finishing outside the top three in their heat race, will have one last chance to make the show in two B-main Qualifier events. In these B-main events, we will transfer the top 4 cars to the feature securing them spots in rows 7 thru 10.

After the B-Main events, we will look back to our weekly Hobby class and Street Stock class point totals to find our highest driver in the points ranking not already locked into the feature race, and this will set row 11, positions 21 & 22.
After those two positions are determined, the 23rd starting position will go to the driver not locked into the feature race with the fastest time from Thursday night’s time trial results. The 24th starting will be set by a random draw of some form to be decided on Sat. night.
The first 2 rows for the feature race will be set by the Dash for Cash event made up of the 4 heat winners!!!
